What happens

Gildersleeve is fed up with his nephew Leroy after a broken window and a series of complaints from neighbors. He decides to bond with the boy by inviting him on a spring hike, along with Leroy's friend Piggy. Gildersleeve insists on running the outing like a military drill, and the party picks up Leroy's young cousin Michael. The hike soon turns into a string of mishaps, including a lost lunch basket and a dispute over the trail's destination. Gildersleeve's attempts to teach nature study also go awry, and the day becomes a test of his patience.

A small town in spring, on a hike toward Schroom Point, with a stop at a brook and a country store.

Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Piggy, Michael, Aunt Lela, Mrs. Ransom

Listen for: Gildersleeve's military-style orders on the hike and the lost lunch basket.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
