What happens
Summerfield's residents are busy with spring cleaning, and Gildersleeve decides the Jolly Boys should surprise Judge Hooker by cleaning his house while the judge is out of town. When Gildersleeve's friends back out one by one, he finds himself alone with the work, and he must decide how to handle the promise he made. The Great Gildersleeve, a radio comedy series, is heard here in its original NBC broadcast of May 2, 1951, with Harold Peary in the title role and Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle also in the cast.
Summerfield, spring, the judge's house and the surrounding town
Characters: Gildersleeve, Peavy, Floyd, Chief Gates, Judge Hooker, Marjorie, Bertie, Leroy
Listen for: Gildersleeve's plan to surprise the judge with a cleaning and the friends who back out
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
