What happens
Gildersleeve, a small-town man, is struck by a beautiful woman he glimpses in the grill of the Summerfield Hotel and becomes determined to meet her. He learns she was seen with Otto Engelbach, a man he has been feuding with, and he goes to Judge Hooker for help. The judge agrees to arrange an apology, and Gildersleeve hopes to attend Engelbach's country club dinner, where he expects to find her. This is an episode of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on November 13, 1946, starring Harold Peary.
A small town, including the Summerfield Hotel grill, a drugstore, Gildersleeve's home and the country club where Engelbach holds his annual dinner.
Characters: Gildersleeve, Floyd, Peavey, Judge Hooker, Otto Engelbach, Leroy, Marjorie, Mary Louise
Listen for: Gildersleeve's rehearsed lines for meeting the mysterious woman, and the judge's promise to smooth things over with Engelbach.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
