What happens

Great Gildersleeve decides to invite a soldier home for Thanksgiving after hearing a radio appeal, and his niece Marjorie and nephew Leroy help him gather guests. Summerfield's soldiers are stationed in Bacon Square, and the household has prepared turkeys and a party of girls for the afternoon. Gildersleeve learns that the soldiers have already been claimed, and he grows determined to find guests of his own. The Great Gildersleeve series, a radio comedy first broadcast on NBC on November 16, 1941, stars Harold Peary, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast. The story follows Gildersleeve's rivalry with Judge Hooker over the soldiers.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
