What happens
Gildersleeve, the pompous water commissioner, is determined to beat his rival, young Dr. Olson, for the affections of the nurse Catherine Milford. Each man keeps turning up at her door, and their rivalry escalates into a series of competitive stunts at a carnival in the park. Harold Peary stars as Gildersleeve in this episode of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on November 2, 1949, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast. Their attempts to outdo each other turn increasingly comic, as each tries to outshine the other.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
