What happens

Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve decides his household should cut costs by staying home in the evenings. Following the first of the month and a pile of unpaid bills, he plans a quiet night with his nephew Leroy and his housekeeper Marjorie, planning popcorn, games, and singing around a new piano. Leroy protests, and Marjorie has a date she considers cancelling. Gildersleeve's friends begin to drop by one after another, and the household's quiet evening soon turns into a crowded party. This episode of The Great Gildersleeve aired on NBC on November 8, 1942, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
