What happens
Gildersleeve notices that Paula Winthrop, an old flame of his, has returned to Summerfield and is living across the street. Intrigued by her glamorous life, he decides to visit her and makes plans to take her out to dinner and dancing, even though he already has a date with Grace Gildersleeve's friend Miss Tuttle for the evening. The episode follows his attempts to balance his social life, his habit of showing off, and his growing interest in Paula. The Great Gildersleeve is an NBC radio series, first broadcast on March 3, 1954, starring Harold Peary and Willard Waterman.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
