What happens

The Great Gildersleeve celebrates Christmas with his family and household, and the morning after the holiday brings trouble. Leroy's gift to Babs, a gold watch, and Babs's gift to Leroy, a string of pearls, cause a stir with Mr. Bullard and Gildersleeve. Marjorie and Bronco, who had agreed on a practical Christmas, also find their gifts questioned. The series, broadcast on NBC in 1951 and starring Harold Peary and Willard Waterman, follows the characters as the young couple's gifts become the center of argument between the households.

The Gildersleeve house and neighbourhood in Summerfield, on the morning and day after Christmas.

Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Babs, Mr. Bullard, Marjorie, Bronco, Birdie, Judge Hooker

Listen for: The argument over the gold watch and the pearls, and how each family reacts to the young couple's gifts.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
