What happens

Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve and his household watch a moving van arrive next door, and Gildersleeve hurries over to welcome the new neighbor, Oliver Two Pants Pearson. Pearson presents himself as a clothing merchant from Sioux Center who has come ahead of his family. Gildersleeve, the city water commissioner, takes care of a water bill mix-up, and Judge Hooker is drawn into the neighborly visit. Pearson keeps making requests of his hosts, from a long distance phone call to borrowed pots and pans, and Gildersleeve begins to wonder how generous he should be. The Great Gildersleeve, a series starring Harold Peary, was first broadcast on NBC on November 30, 1949.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
