What happens
Harold Peary's Gildersleeve, the water commissioner of Summerfield, finds a six-month-old baby girl left in the back of his car and has no name for her. His insurance policy from the Jolly Boys, a go-to-college policy, cannot be completed until a name is chosen. Judge Hooker, Bessie, Floyd and others offer suggestions, from astrological signs to family names and a telephone directory. The Great Gildersleeve series aired on NBC on September 29, 1948, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.
Summerfield, a small town, at Gildersleeve's water department office, his home and Floyd's barbershop
Characters: Gildersleeve, Bessie, Judge Hooker, Leroy, Marjorie, Bertie, Floyd, Adeline Fairchild
Listen for: Gildersleeve's search for a name for the baby, and the Jolly Boys' meeting where the men argue over the choice
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
