What happens
Marjorie Forrester, the teenage niece of Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, comes home late at night after a ride in a hot rod driven by Jerry Walsh. Her guardian, Gildersleeve, is annoyed and scolds her at breakfast, forbidding late hours and boys who hang around. Tensions rise as he lectures her about her friend Jerry, and Marjorie, feeling dismissed as conventional, decides to prove herself by going out with him again. The series The Great Gildersleeve, starring Harold Peary, first aired on NBC on January 29, 1947.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
