What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, Summerfield's water commissioner, takes his nephew Leroy and niece Marjorie to the water department office to show them how hard his job is. Their outing is interrupted when a caller complains that the water pressure has dropped to nothing across town. Gildersleeve learns from his engineer Charlie Anderson that a broken snifter valve is to blame, and the two men struggle to get the pumps working again while Gildersleeve tries to protect his reputation. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series; this episode first aired on NBC on October 24, 1943, starring Harold Peary, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.

Listen for: Gildersleeve's attempts to blame others for the water shortage and the late-episode radio interview.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
