What happens
Gildersleeve, the pompous small-town head of a household, prepares a Halloween party at his home for his niece Marjorie, while his housekeeper Birdie and his nephew Leroy add to the confusion. Gildersleeve is a bit of a bumbler, and the evening's guests are a mix of his neighbors and friends. Judge Hooker, Peavey, and the Ransoms soon arrive, and Gildersleeve's old Halloween pranks are recalled as the party gathers momentum. Harold Peary plays Gildersleeve in this episode of The Great Gildersleeve, which aired on NBC on October 31, 1943.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
