What happens

Leroy Gildersleeve decides to earn his own Christmas money in Summerfield, and his Uncle Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, reluctantly helps him look for work. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running comedy series heard on NBC, and this episode aired on December 1, 1948, with Harold Peary in the title role. Leroy is turned down by a telegraph office and a store, and the family's concern grows as the search goes on. Uncle Gildersleeve has a harder time than expected finding work that suits his nephew.

Characters: Great Gildersleeve, Leroy, Bertie, Marjorie, Mr. Marshall, Floyd, Judge Hooker, Peavy

Listen for: Leroy's job search, first at the telegraph office, then at a store, and Uncle Gildersleeve's growing worry about the cold weather

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
