What happens
Leroy Gildersleeve asks his Uncle Gildy for business advice about taking over a paper route from Buzz Callahan. The Great Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, tells him to keep his head and avoid the work himself, so Leroy buys a three-dollar goat to mow the lawn. The goat soon causes trouble around the house, chasing Gildy and climbing into places it should not be. Judge Hooker, Bertie and Peavey all have opinions about the animal as the household struggles with it. This is the Great Gildersleeve, a radio comedy first broadcast on NBC on April 12, 1950, starring Harold Peary.
Summerfield, a small town, in spring, around the Gildersleeve house, the water department office, and a drugstore.
Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Judge Hooker, Bertie, Bessie, Peavey, Catherine Milford, Ralph Morton
Listen for: Gildy's advice to Leroy about using his head in business, and the goat's escalating mischief around the house and neighborhood.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
