What happens
Gildersleeve's nephew Leroy wants a motor scooter for Christmas, and Gildersleeve insists the answer is no. Leroy adopts a stray cat, and his uncle first tries to get rid of it. Gildersleeve then speaks with his friend Peavey and with the principal, Miss Throckmorton, about the scooter, and he tries to steer Leroy toward a model train. The story is from The Great Gildersleeve, broadcast on NBC on December 18, 1946, with Harold Peary in the title role.
The Gildersleeve household in Summerfield, in the weeks before Christmas
Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Marjorie, Bertie, Peavey, Craig Bullard, Miss Throckmorton
Listen for: Gildersleeve's repeated insistence that there will be no motor scooter, and how his position on the cat and the train changes
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
