What happens

The Great Gildersleeve follows Leroy, who leaves his uncle Throckmorton's house to stay with his cousin Marjorie next door after a quarrel over the household routine. Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, misses his nephew and grows uneasy about the empty room. He takes in another boy, Stuart, to fill the space, hoping the arrangement will bring Leroy home. Leroy and Gildersleeve trade pointed remarks about the boarder and the meals each gets. The episode is a 1953 broadcast on NBC, starring Willard Waterman in the title role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
