What happens

Leroy Gildersleeve is cast as Paul Revere in his school's history pageant, much to the family's amusement. His uncle, the pompous Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, offers advice on acting, while Leroy finds rehearsals tiresome and his teacher, Miss Hatfield, demanding. Meanwhile the town's residents rush to buy tickets to see the young actor perform. Gildersleeve, eager to show off his nephew, grows increasingly convinced the production will be a success. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running comedy series, and this episode aired on NBC on November 19, 1947, starring Harold Peary.

Summerfield, a small town, including the Gildersleeve household and the local school auditorium.

Characters: Great Gildersleeve, Leroy, Bernice, Marjorie, Peavey, Floyd, Miss Hatfield, Judge Hooker

Listen for: Leroy's rehearsal of Paul Revere's call, 'The British are coming!', and Gildersleeve's pompous remarks about the play.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
