What happens
Leila Ransom's return to Summerfield, where she and Throttle were once engaged, unsettles Throttle's life. Throttle, the town's water commissioner, is trying to be cultured, but his niece Marjorie and nephew Leroy keep sneaking out, playing boogie-woogie, and using the telephone. Throttle also visits Leila's now-empty house and finds his old feelings stirred. This is the September 19, 1943 episode of The Great Gildersleeve on NBC, with Harold Peary in the lead role.
Summerfield, a small town; the Gildersleeve home, a drugstore phone booth, and Leila Ransom's house.
Characters: Throttle Gildersleeve, Marjorie, Leroy, Bertie, Judge Hooker, Miss Goodwin, Peabody, Wally Hall
Listen for: Gildersleeve's reaction when he visits Leila's empty house and recalls their old engagement.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
