What happens
On his first day as Summerfield's water commissioner, Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve arrives at the town hall eager to prove himself. He tries to clean up the delinquent accounts, refusing favors even to his old rival Judge Hooker, whose water he has cut off. Later, his nephew Leroy is caught swimming in the town reservoir, and Gildersleeve must deal with the consequences. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series, and this episode first aired on NBC on October 25, 1942, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Listen for: Gildersleeve's pompous speeches on the importance of water, and his escalating dealings with Judge Hooker over the unpaid bill.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
