What happens
Gildersleeve, a small-town gentleman, walks nurse Catherine Milford home from the hospital and hopes to impress her with his supposed craftsmanship. After he repairs a stopped wristwatch for a stranger, Catherine admires his skill. Later, Bertie brings him a kitchen knife belonging to Catherine's mother that needs its nicked blade fixed. Gildersleeve grinds the blade into an unusual tool, and his efforts to hide the mistake from Catherine begin to complicate matters. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series, and this episode aired on NBC on March 8, 1950, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
