What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve tries to repair his temperamental automobile after the service station mechanic is drafted, enlisting his nephew Leroy's help despite the boy's limited knowledge. Their efforts draw the comments of the judge and the neighbors, while Gildy's household fusses over the lack of groceries. Gildy also hopes to ease a quarrel between his niece Marjorie and her suitor Ben, whom he invites to help with the car. The episode is part of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on April 4, 1943, with Harold Peary in the title role, supported by Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
