What happens
Gildersleeve, the pompous but good-natured town water commissioner, is smitten with Eve Goodwin, the school principal, and feels sure of her affections after a recent kiss. Gildy's household includes his ward Leroy and his housekeeper Birdie, and his office staff includes the flustered secretary Bessie. Gildy's plans are complicated when Eve becomes distant and talks of a relationship built on the spirit rather than on romance. Meanwhile, Gildy's tense conversations with Judge Hooker and others about school business add to the day's confusion. This broadcast of The Great Gildersleeve aired on NBC on November 14, 1943, and stars Harold Peary, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
