What happens
Commissioner Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, the water commissioner of Summerfield, takes on a project to build a baseball field so the neighborhood boys will stop playing in the streets. After he breaks the mayor's windshield with a stray ball, he is ordered to find a field, and he turns to Judge Hooker and then to Adeline Fairchild for a vacant lot on Third Street. He begins raising money from local merchants and organizing a boys' club. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series, and this episode aired on NBC on April 7, 1948, with Harold Peary in the title role, alongside Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
