What happens

Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve is annoyed that the Summerfield Little Theater Group has met in his living room without inviting him. When he learns they plan summer plays in an old carriage house, he claims a past as a stage director and insists on joining their production. He picks a dusty old drama and casts himself and his friends in its roles, but the rehearsals go badly, with a hasty recasting, a shortage of furniture and a missing actor. Harold Peary plays Gildersleeve in this NBC broadcast of June 14, 1942, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle among the lead actors. The story is told up to the eve of the opening performance.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
