What happens
Gildersleeve, a middle-aged man in Summerfield, decides his niece Marjorie should marry, and he begins to match her with the teenage son of Throckmorton Bullard, the new neighbor across the street. Leroy, the boy who is his nephew, reports on the neighbors' yard work while Gildersleeve gardens and tries to rouse Marjorie from her room. Bullard calls on Gildersleeve and wins him over with a cigar. Gildersleeve then consults Peavey at the drugstore about his plan. The story is part of the long-running radio comedy The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast by NBC on May 6, 1945, with Harold Peary in the title role, and the cast also includes Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
