What happens
Gildersleeve, a small-town man, is restless one spring evening and decides to take his neighbor Leela out. She has already made other plans, and he learns she has a new interest, a newspaperman named Mark Wade whose unconventional courtship has her intrigued. Gildersleeve broods over the rival, struggles to sleep, and visits the pharmacist Peavey for a tonic. Later he consults his barber Floyd about his appearance and a plan to win Leela back. The Great Gildersleeve, an NBC radio comedy, aired on May 5, 1946, and stars Harold Peary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
