What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve and his household spend the Fourth of July preparing for the first annual outing of the Jolly Boy Social Club. The morning begins in confusion as Gildersleeve hangs the flag from the attic window and nearly gets stuck there, with Leroy called upon to help. Later, young Craig Bullard arrives with a toy cannon and tries to draw Leroy into his games, while the club members argue over who will be chef at the picnic. The episode is part of The Great Gildersleeve, broadcast on NBC on June 9, 1946, with Harold Peary in the title role, alongside Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
