What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, the pompous but well-meaning water commissioner of Summerfield, learns that his friend Leila Ransom has been taken in by a palm reader calling himself Sartorius. Convinced the man is a swindler, Gildersleeve gets Chief Gates to swear him in as a deputy and, with Floyd Munson, visits Sartorius's shop to gather evidence. The seance-like reading turns strange when the swami refuses to finish Gildersleeve's palm and returns his money. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running NBC radio comedy, and this episode aired on January 20, 1946, starring Harold Peary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
