What happens

His lawyer, Judge Hooker, suggests a defense: proving Gildersleeve was already engaged to another woman at the time. Gildersleeve insists he is still engaged to Eve Goodwin, but she refuses to play along. He then turns to Leila Ransom, his former fiancée, asking her to pretend their engagement was never broken. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series, and this episode first aired on NBC on January 14, 1945, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
