What happens
Gildersleeve finds himself engaged to two women at once, Adeline Fairchild and his former flame Leila Ransom, and cannot choose between them. Discussing the problem with his ward, he tries to decide which woman would make the better lifelong companion, while both fiancées press him for an answer. He consults his friend Peavey, who recounts a youthful romance of his own, and then Judge Hooker, who proposes a scheme to make Leila break the engagement. The series is The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on November 17, 1948, with Harold Peary in the title role. Gildersleeve's plan to steer Leila toward bank teller Barney Caldwell is set in motion as the episode continues.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
