What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, the water commissioner of Summerfield, is teased by his family after a newspaper photo shows a man who resembles him. The picture shows Wilbur Cosgrove, an adventurer who vanished from Duluth in 1938. Gildersleeve brags about his own imagined past, then a woman named Sarah arrives in town insisting he is her missing husband. Gildersleeve tries to prove he is who he says he is, enlisting the judge and others. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy starring Willard Waterman, and this episode first aired on NBC on April 2, 1952.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
