What happens
On a busy week before Christmas, Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, is worn out from finishing the department's annual report and forgetting his holiday errands. His friend Judge Hooker is sure Gildersleeve has been courting Leila Ransom, who is leaving for Savannah to visit her brother, and the two men quarrel over her. Leila is seen off at the airport, where she asks the two men to stop fighting and be friends while she is away. The story is part of The Great Gildersleeve series, which aired on NBC on December 20, 1942, with Harold Peary in the lead role.
Summerfield, during the days before Christmas, including the water department office, Floyd's barbershop, the airport and the Gildersleeve household.

Listen for: Leila's farewell at the airport and her request that Gildersleeve and Judge Hooker be friends while she is away.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
