What happens
Gildersleeve's nephew Leroy breaks a window with a golf ball and worries about confessing it. Gildersleeve, arriving home for dinner, is calm and generous, taking the family out for sundaes and then to a movie. Back at home, the housekeeper Birdie reveals she has mislaid a letter from the Department of the Treasury, which orders Gildersleeve to appear about his 1944 income tax return by June 4, 1947. Gildersleeve is alarmed and phones his lawyer, Judge Hooker, who is unhelpful.
Summerfield, a small town, in the home of Gildersleeve and in the town's drugstore and movie theatre, with a Treasury office visit to follow.
Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Marjorie, Bertie, Judge Hooker, Brady, Peavey
Listen for: The Treasury letter Birdie found and hid, and Gildersleeve's frantic phone call to Judge Hooker.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
