What happens
In Summerfield, Leroy reads of the capture of bank robber John Moran, and the household talks of little else. When sirens sound later that evening, Uncle Mort's household fears a jailbreak. Meanwhile, Mort and his friends at the Jolly Boys club pass the evening at the police station, where a comedy of mistaken identity and a staged arrest begins to unfold. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy heard on NBC, and this episode first aired on April 14, 1946, starring Harold Peary.
Summerfield, a small town, on an evening in the home of Gildersleeve and at the Summerfield police station.
Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Bertie, Marjorie, Birdie, Leila Ransome, Peavey, Floyd Munson
Listen for: The sirens and the rumor of a jailbreak, and Gildersleeve's attempt to play the hero for Leila.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
