What happens
Fred Allen hosts a comedy hour in which he visits his regular neighbors on the program's fictional alley, including Senator Claghorn, Mrs. Nussbaum, and Titus Moody, each recounting a time they were swindled. Fred then drops in on James Mason, who describes a summer at Coney Island and a radio quiz appearance. Later Mason stars with Fred in a mock-serial spoof called The Perfect Crime, in which Norbert Nottingham, a gentleman with a house boy named Chung and a maid named Martha, plans the death of inventor Sir Stafford Phipps while a detective named Longpan investigates. The broadcast aired on October 19, 1947 and features Portland Hoffa, Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious among the regular cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
