What happens
Fred Allen strolls down Main Street with Portland Hoffa, and they stop to ask passersby what the best way to be happy is. Along the way they meet a senator, a shopkeeper, Mrs. Nussbaum, and a cheerful man named Humphrey Kidder, each offering a comic view on happiness and politics. Kenny Delmar drops by with a new song. The walk ends at a radio station, where a book discussion is set to begin. The Fred Allen Show aired on CBS and NBC, and this episode was first broadcast on January 9, 1949, with Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
