What happens
Fred Allen and his sidekick Portland Hoffa close out the season's final broadcast of the Fred Allen show with a series of comic exchanges. Portland visits Alan's Alley, where Senator Claghorn tells a tale of a Republican convention, Mr. Moody recounts a failed Shakespearean production, and Mrs. Nussbaum describes a boarding house with a bugle. Later, Fred visits Jack Benny, who is preparing to sail for England, and the two attempt a trip overseas on a shipboard voyage. The episode aired on June 27, 1948, on CBS and NBC, with Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious among the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
