What happens
Fred Allen hosts his comedy program, joined by Portland Hoffa and Kenny Delmar, and the first half is a run of topical jokes and sketches. Allen jokes about a planned film of Mayor O'Dwyer's life and about housing shortages and bachelors. Senator Claghorn tells of a used car dealer who tried to force unwanted accessories on him, and Mr. Moody describes being led to a strange car salesman by a stranger on Broadway. Rochester then visits Allen to propose his own summer mystery program. The fictional broadcast in the middle is a parody of a crime drama in which Mr. Biddle has been killed, and Rochester plays the detective. The series is Fred Allen, first aired June 8, 1947 on CBS and NBC.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
