What happens

Fred Allen hosts his comedy hour alongside Portland Hoffa, with Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious among the regulars. The program opens with a Ford dealer sponsor message and a running joke about a stolen cuckoo. Fred polls listeners about the worst storms they can recall, and a series of comic characters answer: Senator Claghorn tells of Washington stalled by snow, Mr. Moody recalls a freezing blizzard that left his cattle bundled up, and Mrs. Nussbaum describes stepping in and out of her ground-floor window. Later James Mason visits to hunt for mystery plots, and the program turns into a sketch about a speculator named Percy Peters and a bee breeder, Hubert Hives. This broadcast was aired on January 4, 1948 by CBS and NBC.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
