What happens
Fred Allen and his sidekick Portland Hoffa stroll down Main Street, stopping to question passersby about whether advertising influences people. Their encounters include a senator who speaks French badly, a man who signed up for a book club, and a comic tale of a trip to Maine. The episode then turns to a courtroom in the town of Parson Parn, where lawyer Rockwell defends Harvey Tubbs against a murder charge. Harvey is a hotel guest who sleeps through much of the night, and the trial centers on a doctor's death and the two guns found in Harvey's room. The guide stops short of the case's resolution. This is the Fred Allen radio series, first broadcast on February 13, 1949, with Fred Allen and Portland Hoffa in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
