What happens

Fred Allen hosts his comedy show with guest Don McNeil, the Demarcos and Al Goodman's orchestra. Fred and Kenny Delmar trade jokes about Mother's Day, animals, the news of the day, and the Pulitzer Prizes. Senator Claghorn, Mrs. Nussbaum and Ajax Cassidy each offer their opinions on the awards. Fred later visits Don McNeil's breakfast program in New York, where he tries to be recognized in a street contest. The broadcast then turns to Fred's new quiz idea, Break the Contestant, which he pitches to McNeil.

A live radio comedy broadcast in 1948, with sketches set in the studio, on Fifth Avenue in New York, and in a quiz show studio.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
