What happens
Fred Allen hosts a comedy hour in which the regulars gather for a live chat about the New York telephone company's 50th anniversary. Titus Moody recalls a party-line bell that kept his whole farm awake, and Mrs. Nussbaum describes how a telephone call brought her a proposal and a honeymoon at Niagara Falls. Meanwhile Allen announces a new band, and Oscar Levant signs on as its piano player after a series of comic complaints about outdoor concerts. The segment ends with the band booked for a summer job at Romanoff's Ronda Room.
A live radio comedy program broadcast in 1946, with the cast gathered in the studio and in the fictional town of Allen's Alley.
Characters: Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, Titus Moody, Mrs. Nussbaum, Senator Claghorn, Oscar Levant, Romanoff, Kenny Delmar
Listen for: The Titus Moody party-line story and Oscar Levant's audition with Romanoff.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
