What happens
Fibber McGee and Molly are preparing to leave on their summer vacation, and Fibber is trying to finish a musical composition while Molly loads the car. Their neighbor Mr. Gildersleeve offers to help with the trunks, and visitors such as Mrs. Uppington and Harlow Wilcox drop by with gifts and remarks. Fibber, who is also readying a piece for the summer show, plays it for Billy Mills and the bandleader Meredith Wilson, who is set to take over the program. The episode is from the Fibber McGee and Molly series, first broadcast on NBC Radio on June 25, 1940, with Harold Peary, Bill Thompson, Gale Gordon and Arthur Q. Bryan in the cast.
The McGee home on a summer evening, as the family prepares to leave on vacation.
Characters: Fibber McGee, Molly McGee, Mr. Gildersleeve, Mrs. Uppington, Harlow Wilcox, Billy Mills, Meredith Wilson, Mrs. Bloomer
Listen for: Fibber's over-the-top musical boasting and Molly's dry replies, along with the crowd of visitors arriving as the trunks are loaded.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
