What happens
Mayor LaTrivia stays on at the McGee home long after he means to leave, and each attempt to see him out is interrupted by a new visitor. Fibber and Molly are caught between their polite manners and their growing frustration, while the mayor keeps finding reasons to linger. Mrs. Uppington arrives with a demand for heated water for the horses on the east side of City Hall Square, and Mr. Wilcox comes to plead about a parking ticket. Fibber McGee and Molly, on NBC Radio, first aired on November 18, 1941, starring Harold Peary, Bill Thompson, Gale Gordon and Arthur Q. Bryan. The mayor's visit drags on through a series of awkward callers and small quarrels at the door.
The McGee home in the evening, where the mayor's farewell at the front door keeps being delayed by visitors.
Characters: Fibber McGee, Molly McGee, Mayor LaTrivia, Mr. Wilcox, Mrs. Uppington, Mr. Whimple, Mert, Claude
Listen for: Listen for the mayor repeatedly announcing he is leaving and then being drawn back into the house by a new visitor or a phone call.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
