What happens
Fibber McGee and Molly receives a notice that Fibber has been drafted into the army, despite his age and physical condition. Molly doubts it, and Fibber insists it is genuine, showing a letter signed by the President. Neighbors Abigail and Gildersleeve react with disbelief, and Fibber makes his case at the bank and the library. The notice's date and the official tone of the letter leave the couple uncertain whether the claim is a joke. Fibber declares he will report for duty at the station the next morning, and the situation grows more confused as he tries to board the train.
The McGee home at 79 Wishful Vista on a spring morning, then the bank, the public library, and a train station.
Characters: Fibber McGee, Molly McGee, Mrs. Abigail Uppington, Gildersleeve, Mr. Bagworthy, Mr. Wilcox, Mr. Old Timer, Johnny
Listen for: Fibber's exaggerated claims about his military service and fitness, and the mounting confusion over whether the draft notice is genuine.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
