What happens
Fibber McGee and Molly is an episode from the series, first broadcast on NBC Radio on February 4, 1941, with Harold Peary, Bill Thompson, Gale Gordon and Arthur Q. Bryan in the lead roles. Fibber argues with Molly about his shabby clothes, insisting comfort matters more than style, until she suggests he finally buy a new outfit. He sets off downtown to shop, where he runs into his neighbors Gildersleeve and Wilcox, who are also trying to look well dressed. Fibber visits a clothing store and then a hat shop, where he and Gildersleeve get into a squabble over a hat.
Wistful Vista, the McGees' home, and downtown clothing and hat stores
Characters: Fibber McGee, Molly McGee, Gildersleeve, Mr. Wilcox, Uncle Dennis, Mrs. Uppington, Mr. Boomer, Johnny the milkman
Listen for: Fibber's long, rambling speeches, and the squabble with Gildersleeve over a hat in the store
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
