What happens
Fibber McGee is chosen by the Chamber of Commerce to visit a sick member, Billy Mills, in hospital, and he and Molly set out with candy, cigars and fruitcake. Along the way they meet Abigail Uppington, who is visiting her housekeeper, and they are sent to the wrong rooms and wrong floors by busy hospital staff. Their visit to the ward becomes a loud, muddled affair as their gifts and jokes pile up. The episode is a 1943 installment of the NBC radio comedy Fibber McGee and Molly, first broadcast on January 12, 1943, with Harold Peary, Bill Thompson, Gale Gordon and Arthur Q. Bryan in the cast.
A hospital, and the McGees' home before the visit
Characters: Fibber McGee, Molly McGee, Billy Mills, Abigail Uppington, Mr. Powers, Wallace Wimple, Dr. Wilcox, Miss Murphy
Listen for: The mix-up over which room Billy Mills is in, and the running gags about the elevator and the nurse at the desk
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
