What happens

Jim Anderson hides a nine-by-fifteen rug he bought as a birthday present for his wife, Margaret, in the Anderson home on Maple Street. The family scrambles to conceal it, first trying the attic, then the billiard table, while Jim worries his wife will discover the surprise. His friend Hector Smith drops by and gets pulled into the scheme. Jim also fears he may have talked in his sleep and revealed the secret, and he asks the children to find out what he said. The episode is part of the Father Knows Best series, transcribed in Hollywood and first broadcast on October 11, 1951, starring Robert Young as Jim Anderson.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
