What happens

The Anderson family of Springfield spends a Saturday in the good old days, as Jim Anderson insists. Jim and Bud build a homemade kite, make paste from flour and water, and Jim refuses to buy a kite or beads, arguing that handmade toys teach resourcefulness. Kitten wants pearl beads, Betty wants to go to a 3-D movie in Linville, and Margaret goes along with the paste-making. A rainstorm then knocks out the electricity, leaving the household to manage by candlelight, cook dinner over the fireplace and try to shave without a working razor. The episode is part of the Father Knows Best series, which first aired on 1953-05-07 and stars Robert Young as Jim Anderson.

Listen for: Jim insisting that homemade toys and life without modern conveniences were better in the good old days, and the power outage that follows the storm.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
